About

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream oil and gas industry. Our Members operate around the globe and together we identify and share knowledge to improve the industry in areas such as health, safety, the environment and efficiency.

Geospatial Integrity of Geoscience Software (GIGS) was initiated in 2007 as a joint industry project, sponsored by IOGP, in response to significant concern and documented evidence of geospatial integrity failures in geoscience software. It's purpose is to provide software developers with recommended guidance and good practice regarding geospatial integrity.

Although the GIGS test dataset and test series are primarily focused on applications related to the energy industry, the principles and framework can be readily applied to any software or data model that handles spatial data.

The GIGS package is developed and maintained by the Geomatics Committee of the IOGP. There have been significant revisions undertaken since the original release of GIGS in 2011, including a significant restructing and modernisation in 2021.

All testing material is provided as open-source in order to promote widespread usage and awareness of the importance of geospatial integrity.

Usage of GIGS is subject to the Terms of Use
